据香港文汇网8日报道，香港7日新增15850例新冠确诊病例，较前一日下降约两成，确诊病例中包括509例输入病例，并首次发现最具传染性的奥密克戎新的变异分支XBB.1.5毒株输入病例。
报道称，XBB.1.5正在欧美掀起新一波疫情，已迅速成为美国新冠疫情的主流毒株，占总确诊数40%以上，并已在全球29个国家发现其踪影。世界卫生组织早前表示，XBB.1.5是至今发现“免疫逃脱能力”最强的奥密克戎亚变种毒株，即是最具传染性，但没有证据显示可引发更严重病情。XBB.1.5患者多数出现类似感冒的症状，与奥密克戎的相似。
香港卫生署卫生防护中心7日公布，香港出现的首宗XBB.1.5是输入病例，患者是一名自英国抵港的24岁女子，她已接种两剂疫苗。报道称，香港记录的XBB病例中，输入病例累计有227例，包括该例XBB.1.5，本地病例有173例。
